Peter Nieman is a medical doctor who helps families achieve wellness, using integrative medicine as a way to help them move forward. He appears regularly on local and national television. He is a marathon runner who has completed close to one hundred marathons; he continues to run daily. He is married and has four children. He lives in Canada.

Well Done, Dr Nieman

Dr. Peter Nieman is someone who is good at setting goals and maintaining the mental discipline to stay on track with what has to be done to achieve them. As a pediatrician, he helps his young patients and their parents learn constructive ways to think of and approach challenges to health. It takes mental discipline.
After a medical career of more than three decades, as a father of four and as an avid reader and a runner now nearing his 100th marathon, Dr Nieman has a treasure trove of the things he has learned that work or don't work when dealing with the challenges that can present themselves in his life and our lives.
This book is appropriately named "Moving Forward". It is quite something that Dr. Nieman has found the time, in his busy life, to write this book and share with us the lessons he has learned. He is well organized and says alot in 176 pages. When I was in my early 20s, I stumbled on a book by Dr. Dyer (one of the authors that Dr Nieman cites) that helped me, by getting across to me the point that "we choose how we feel" and the importance of "mental discipline" when facing challenges and uncertainty.
I see this as such a book - that the reader can use to feel better - by employing the mental discipline and perseverance that is within his or her ability, with confidence that things will be all right. Don't try to finish it all at once. When feeling worried or stressed, keep it nearby at night and enjoy reading and re-reading helpful portions. You will feel better as you read and accept how the way you think of problems - and their solutions - are within your control.

Motivating and practical

Packed with encouragement and practical strategies for facing life's challenges, in addition to daily practices to help build a resilient foundation from which to face those challenges, 'Moving Forward' integrates wisdom from many traditions and thinkers. Dr. Nieman finds the common themes from writers as diverse as the Dalai Lama and Vincent Norman Peale. I liked the organization of the book, especially the chapters on energy and the impact that others can have on us (the chapter is titled "Associations"). Each chapter ends with a list of 10 practical strategies and an explanation of how to implement them, which gives the book a refreshing "you can do it too" feel. As a long-time pediatrician, Dr. Nieman has a wealth of experience informing and caring for others, and he shares some of the insights he has gained from this experience as a physician in addition to personal challenges he has overcome. Even though packed with information, this book is a fast read that's sure to motivate and energize.

A Resource For Life.

Dr. Nieman synthesis the great thoughts and advice from so many that have written before. In addition to other sages, his chapters end with Action Steps. His book guides you to take the action needed to move forward in your life. Who wants to feel stuck? This is a book you need at your bedside table, a resource for life. I highly recommend it!
