Good binding; good font-size and font-selection; good pairing of translations! These are more modern than wordings like the King James or ESV: it is the Good News Translation and a French close-equivalent - if this publisher ever produced a bilingual KJV / Louis Segond in this quality publication I would immediately obtain multiple copies!

'Unenvied Resort of Defeated Tribes'

Before Lawrence became a legend for his role in the Arab revolt in World War I, and Woolley achieved fame for his discovery of the royal treasures at Ur, the two Englishmen were young archeologists working together for the British Museum at a dig on the upper Euphrates. It was then that they were recruited by the Palestine Exploration Fund (PEF) to conduct an archeological survey of southern Palestine. This desolate area extends from northeast Sinai to Wadi Araba, the valley running south from the Dead Sea to the port of Akaba. It was called the Negeb desert then, the Negev today.

The authors' description of the area is probably Lawrence's: "The wearing monotony of senseless rounded hills and unmeaning valleys makes this southern desert of Syria one of the most inhospitable of all deserts - one which, since the [Muslim] invasion, has been the unenvied resort of defeated tribes too weak to face the strenuous life of the greater deserts." The survey provided cover for a secret British military mapping expedition, preparing for the impending war with Germany -- and with the Ottoman Turks, who ruled Palestine.

While British soldiers charted the desert, Woolley and Lawrence seriously went about doing archeology. Woolley concentrated on northern sites; Lawrence headed south for Akaba. This report details their findings - mostly ruins and inscriptions from Byzantine times - plus a few mysteries for good measure, like "the long and puzzling walls" of perfectly preserved dry stone "which ... appear to start and go on and end aimlessly" along hill-slopes for close to a mile, whose purpose was unknown even to local Bedouins.

The report, illustrated with maps, figures and photos, was first published in 1915 and reprinted in 1936 after Lawrence's death. This revised edition adds a wealth of new material, including details of the military mission from the PEF archives, and fascinating newspaper reviews of the 1936 edition.

Great for Anyone Trying to Learn Anatomy

I'm a massage therapist and was starting to forget specific muscles, so I got this to help me refresh my memory. This is a very well done book on the body's muscles with lots of facts about the individual muscles or groups. The pictures are of a good size, so coloring is not a problem and it doesn't look like a mess of colors when you're done. At the beginning of each section are B&W illustrations showing the muscles to be covered from different views, then each page covers an individual muscle, with an illustration you can also color. An excellent resource!!

I have to say this book really helped a lot in my Kinesology class. I actually had no clue a book like this exsisted until my professor suggested that if we wanted a little more help to get this book. I explains everything and provides blank charts for you to test your knowledge and memorization. If you are a nursing student or health science student like myself this book will very extremely helpful for you.

With recent advances in ultrasound systems, storing multiple digital frames and clips with superb image quality has become a reality. These advances have brought innovative applications into the clinical field and can be integrated into powerful multimedia presentations for teaching purposes. Sections of cardiac specimens are usually compared with corresponding sections in echocardiography textbooks. These sections are mainly obtained from isolated hearts, due to ease and speed of acquisition. Nevertheless, sections of the whole body are a better tool with which to understand the relationship between cardiac and extracardiac structures. This understanding is particularly important in fetal echocardiography, where the number of visible structures around the heart is much greater and the approaches to the fetal thorax are more variable. The extraordinary amount of information provided in this work makes this publication a highly useful�resource for obstetricians, sonographers, and pediatric cardiologists.

This is an excellent book for Pediatiric Cardiologists, Cardiac Nurses, Anatomists, Cardiac fellows, and Cardiac Sonographers. Each chapter is clear and concise in the presentation of the material with plenty of 2-D images and cross sectional pathology specimens for comparison. I highly recommend this book.

This book would have been better titled: Big Data the IBM way.There is some useful information in here, especially if you are an IBM shop. But if you want to understand Big Data without the IBM hype, this is not the book for you.

The writing style includes some classic marketing buzz: "It's available in the IBM cloud as well; Hadoop cluster, yup; SQL data store, yup - you get the point" - and that's just in chapter 1.

The concepts of big data are explained with pictures, tables, some sample code, screenshots and architectural schematics that you sometimes see in Powerpoint presentations. This helps the text, but the writing style lacks simplicity. For example, some topics are introduced in wordy text with a subsequent sentence saying something like: "we refer to this concept as xyz" where xyz is italicized. A bolder approach would have been to say "xyz is the concept of ...", alerting the reader to something important up front, rather than make them go back to the preceding paragraph and re-read to get the significance of the new concept.

Because it is written by IBMers, the examples of Big Data implementations and how it works all come from IBM, so if you wanted to understand how other IT vendors do it, or even get a vendor neutral descriptions of Big Data, you won't find it here.
