Todd Burton has had enough of small-town Buckman. Wonderful!

If you have ever walked by someone in need and thought, "I really want to help that person," you will totally understand Gabe.
He's been helped, so he wants to help someone else.
Todd needs help. His dreams have been crushed, his life feels like it is falling apart, and he's stuck outside in a blizzard.
Isn't it amazing what an open door, a sandwich, a cup of coffee, and a little empathy can start.
These two characters need each other.
Step by step, Todd and Gabriel are able to find their way to each other. They grow together, learn each other's pasts, help to heal old hurts, and finally--finally--build their home together.
The characters are rich and real. They compliment each other so well.
As a secondary character, Peter is absolutely amazing. He's funny, honest, lighthearted, and just a little bit sneaky. I beyond fell in love with him.
This book is on my favorites list. Without a doubt, it's worth the read!

What A Wonderful Surprise Find!

This book came up as an Amazon.com recommendation on my Kindle. It seemed at least moderately interesting, so I went ahead and purchased it. I figured, if I didn't like it, I could always do a return.
What a wonderful surprise it turned out to be. The writing is good enough, but the characters are something else, entirely. Excellent, to say the least!
This book is peopled with rich characters, painful pasts and, most important to me, giving, generous and caring people. It is as much about "paying it forward" as it is about lovers and their trials.
This is one of those rare books that leave you smiling, happy that there are good things and good people in the world.

the magic of love, kindness, and generosity are transformative

This is raised from being a formulaic read... that of a young gay guy who left his hick home and homophobic parents for the Big (ger) city of Kansas City in search of his dream of training to be a big time check... and is tossed out of his apartment when he runs out of money.. and is in the lobby of an upscale condo building when he meets a 30 something guy who offers him shelter... they of course fall for one another... but as I was saying it was saved from being cliche by some underlying magic (love, kindness, generosity, and some undisclosed magic)... good read.
