About the Author

Barbara Couture has held several academic positions, ranging from professor of English to university president. Her publications include six books and numerous chapters and articles. She received the 2000 CCCC Outstanding Book Award for Toward a Phenomenological Rhetoric and was awarded the distinction of Fellow of the Association of Teachers of Technical Writing in 2010.

Patti Wojahn is associate professor at New Mexico State University. She researches borders challenging communication and growth in various contexts: within online technologies; within transitions among languages: academic, personal, professional, first, or additional; and within diverse disciplinary fields.

About the Author
Alvin Jackson is Richard Lodge Professor of History at the University of Edinburgh. He was previously Professor of Modern Irish History at the Queen's University of Belfast, Lecturer in Modern Irish History at University College Dublin and John Burns Visiting Professor at Boston College. His earlier publications include The Ulster Party (1989), Colonel Edward Saunderson: Land and Loyalty in Victorian Ireland (1995) and Home Rule: An Irish History 1800-2000 (2003).

About the Author
Max Euwe (1901-1981) was the fifth world chess champion. He won the title from Alekhine in 1935 but was defeated in the rematch two years later. He wrote extensively on chess theory and openings and was one of the most respected playersof his day.

A great book I am happy to own.

One of the greatest and most consequential tournaments of all time.

Most great tournaments feature great players playing together. But this one was for the World Chess Championship. Mikhail Botvinnik, Vasily Smyslov, Samuel Reshevsky, Paul Keres and Max Euwe were considered the best in the world. Although one could argue Reuben Fine (who was invited but chose to pursue his studies in psychology) and David Bronstein should have also played the field was still very credible.

Every one of the players was at some point in time over the past 15 years, before and after, was considered or will be considered to be the best in the world. Euwe was a former World Champion, Botvinnik and Smyslov were to become world champions. Fischer considered Reshevsky to be the best player in the world in the late 50s. Keres would find himself playing the in the next 6 Candidates Tournaments.

Not a lot of draws, mostly wins and losses. Superbly annotated by Euwe, the notes were a revelation and joy to read.

A landmark moment in chess history

A landmark moment in chess history: a tournament fought by five top grandmasters to determine the world champion; and, the establishment of FIDE as the world chess organization. GM Euwe, both a participant and a former world champion, was one of the best chess writers and analysts of all time. Truly, a book that every serious chess student must own and study.

Classic book of a classic tournament

This was a historic tournament, starting the FIDE-controlled world championship, replacing the former system where a champion could (and often did) avoid his strongest challengers. Botvinnik deservedly won by a three-point margin, which should have surprised no-one becaus he had won every tournament he played in since 1941, and many were world-class. His domination seemed to herald a dominant reign as world champ, but as we now know, he never won a match as world champion.

This book is a different order from Golombek's, since it was written by one of the five participants. Unfortunately, Euwe had worn himself out and lost confidence by a too-busy chess schedule in 1947, and was way below form in this tournament. Still, the games were well annotated and objectively assessed, as would be expected from a man who was known for his fairness.

Since Fine withdrew, it was a travesty that he wasn't replaced by Najdorf, who had some brilliant results in the few years before the tournament, especially Prague that was meant to be a qualifier.

The larger versions "Mini~Me"!==>Physical Therapist Approved!

1.Pocket Stretching Book is a perfect size for my gym bag. I put it in a zip lock bag to keep it nice.
2.My brother is a Chiropractor and he gave me the larger version over twenty years ago.
3.I used it so much, that years later I had to take it to an office supply store to have them hole punch and add a plastic binder down the spine of the book. I actually liked it better because it laid out flat.
4.My Physical Therapist was very impressed with this book and its size.
5.She was able to tag the stretches that were perfect for my situation/injury.
6.Thank you Bob Anderson for your simple to follow stretching books!

Fast shipping, nothing damaged.
Great great book for me. I recently started doing yoga and come to find out I'm not all as flexible as I thought when doing some poses.
I got this to help with my flexibility and stretching. Great for me. I would buy again.

I've read numerous books on this subject and by far and away found this lighthearted approach to be the most enjoyable to read. Full of great advice and levity, it is just fun. The author's approach is refreshing and insightful. Enjoy and be inspired to stop blaming.

I never realized how pervasive and damaging blaming is until I read this book. The impulse to blame someone or something else is strong and ingrained. We all do it and usually without really being aware we're doing it. Blaming hurts other people, reflects poorly on us and promotes negativity. Since reading this witty, well researched book I've become more aware of other people blaming and especially when I feel the impulse to blame my shortcomings or bad attitude on other people. The author seems to have broad base of knowledge and uses historical and current events to highlight his points in a humorous way. This book is different and refreshing in it's approach. It has helped me improve my outlook and attitude in my own hectic work and home life. Highly recommendable. It has made me more aware of and to stop playing "The Blame Game".

This book, written in a lighthearted, easy to read, conversational manner, is an eye opener. Blaming is everywhere. It drains our energy and focus and distracts us from getting to solutions. This book brings this fact to the forefront of our awareness, where it can be dealt with. My favorite part of the book is from chapter 10 onward where the benefits of quitting the blame game and mechanism of how to quit are described. Dr. Farber draws upon his own life experience so much so that, once finished, you feel as if you just had a long conversation with a good friend about something that really matters.

Sexual violence in general, and rape in particular, is under-reported in India. The social stigma associated with rape is the biggest hurdle that a rape survivor faces right from the time of reporting the matter to the police to the stage of trial. This book, one of the first ethnographic studies of rape trials in India, focuses on the everyday socio-legal processes that underlie the making of rape trials. It describes how state law is transformed in its localization, often to the point of bearing little resemblance to written law.

The work centres around four extended case studies in a trial court in Ahmedabad. These case studies show how the effects of power and knowledge congeal to disqualify women's (and children's) testimonies at different sites of state law such as the police station, forensic science laboratory, or the hospital and the court.

This book describes multiple ways in which public secrecy is subjected to specific revelations in rape trials that do not bring justice to a rape survivor but address and reinforce deeply entrenched phallocentric notions of justice.

Bringing sociological insights to the contested and anguishing issue of rape trials, this book is an essential read for all those committed to a just and safe society for women in India.

Alan is currently a faculty member at Moore College of Art and Design and Montgomery County Community College, teaching a variety of computer science and business courses. He holds a BS in accounting from Rider University, an MS in information systems from Drexel University, and he is a certified public accountant. After a successful career in business, Alan finally realized that his true calling is education. He has been teaching at the college level since 2000. Kendall E. Martin, Ph.D.

Kendall is a professor of Computer Science at Montgomery County Community College with teaching experience at both the undergraduate and graduate levels at a number of institutions, including Villanova University, DeSales University, Ursinus College, and Arcadia University. Kendall’s education includes a BS in electrical engineering from the University of Rochester and an MS and a PhD in engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. This book was required for my Intro to Computer Information Systems class, and I felt it does a good job covering the basics about what is important in technology today. For me, these types of subjects are better covered with hands on experience, so there were plenty of places where the text can be a bit boring, so I made sure to take plenty of notes in order to be able to pass the exams. This is a good place to start if you are looking to pursue a tech related career.

Technology In Action, Complete (6th Edition)I had trouble purchasing this book at the campus bookstore because my campus did not have it in stock. I purchased this book on BN and they sent me the wrong edition. I had to return it, and re-purchase it. Then, the day I was suppose to receive it, I get an email stating that my order was cancelled due to them not carrying it in stock! I was so PO'd! I logged into Amazon, purchased the book I needed (cheaper) and i had it in my hands THE NEXT DAY! I am so thrilled! I was already 4 days behind on my classwork due to all the screw-ups... I cant thank you enough! :)

About the actual text: I am enjoying this textbook. It is well written and comes with a CD as an extra resource. All chapters have a Chapter Summary and Key Terms and where to locate them in the text. Also, for practice, each chapter has a real-world scenario with fill in the blanks using buzzwords and vocabulary, a self-test in both multiple choice and true/false formats, a "making the transition" section, and critical thinking questions. Overall- 2 thumbs up!

A very good book to read.

This book is an excellent source for novice readers. It has answered all my questions about technology, and it can put you on the right track and provides you with a solid background about technology in general. I consider it an indispensable necessity for most novice readers. The presentation and the layout of the book is excellent and user friendly. Quite often I want to get answers for many questions. However, some readers may find it overwhelming due to the amount of information in it, but it is an excellent source lo get you educated in technology. It has given me some kind of confidence.
